Central Park Perks Program Offers Savings on the Upper East Side

by Stasha Mills

For just $35, a tax-deductible fee that supports Central Park, you can become a member of the Central Park Conservancy and receive savings at more than 175 restaurants, shops, museums, performing arts centers, and hotels citywide. The Central Park Perks Program includes 28 establishments on the Upper East Side. Simply show your membership card at any of the participating establishments to take advantage of the savings.

On the Upper East Side, offers are strongest in the restaurant category. The card will pay for itself if you spend $175 on some calamari, Florentine steak, and chianti at Cinquanta Restaurant, where you get 20 percent off. There’s 15 percent off lunch at Madison Avenue’s swank Mediterranean, Frederick's Madison, and 10 percent off meals at places including Osso Buco, Sarabeth’s at the Whitney, and One Fish Two Fish. Arabelle at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée and Tamarind will give you a free glass of wine with a meal.

In the museums category, bring a friend for a 2-for-1 admission to the National Academy Museum. This gem has a permanent collection of more than 5,000 American works from the 19th and 20th centuries including those by Frederic Church and Childe Hassam. The museum will be closed to the public January 18-22 to host the New York Ceramics Fair, and will re-open on February 9 with two exhibitions: “Treasures from Olana: Landscapes by Frederic Edwin Church” and “For Spacious Skies: Hudson River School Paintings.” Both will be on view through April 30.

Also, offering 2-for-1 admission is The Dahesh Museum of Art, which shows works by Europe's academically trained artists of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Act quickly to catch “The Legacy of Homer: Four Centuries of Art from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris,” which closes on January 22. Works from an important private holding of original oil paintings, watercolors, and pencil drawings, “Stories To Tell: Masterworks from The Kelly Collection of American Illustration,” will be on view February 14-May 21. “Napoleon on the Nile: Soldiers, Artists, and the Rediscovery of Egypt” runs June 8 – September 3.

And if you were thinking of investing in a bespoke suit, run and take advantage of 15 percent off at Bhambi’s Custom Tailor.

Highlights of offers beyond the Upper East Side include: 2-for-1 admission to P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Museum and the Museum of Television & Radio; 2-for-1 admission to the Central Park Carousel and Wollman Rink; 10 percent off tickets to the Public Theater ; a complimentary dessert at Asiate, Beacon, and Dinosaur Bar-B-Que; 10 percent off at Café des Artistes, Calle Ocho, and San Domenico; free sailboat rental in the park; 15 percent off wine at Harlem Vintage; free admission to the New York City Police Museum; a free glass of wine at Shun Lee; and 15 percent off the rack rates at the Soho Grand and Tribeca Grand.

In addition to these savings, all members receive a color map of the park and a newsletter with a calendar of events. At higher contribution levels, members receive additional benefits such as guidebooks and private tours.
